FLINT, Mich. (AP) — Flint residents are celebrating the restoration of an urban park and lake after a cleanup effort by local officials.

The Flint Journal reports ( ) about 100 people attended a Thursday picnic at Flint Park Lake to take in its makeover. Genesee County parks and the Flint River Watershed Coalition hosted the picnic after working with the city to clean up brush and dead trees from the area.

The county parks director says the lake is one of several local parks where access need to be improved. She says the area's renewed beauty could help boost property values.

Flint resident Terry Williams says the change is "like day and night." He says the cleanup has brought people together and his seven grandkids are now excited to go fishing in the lake.
