MARQUETTE - An on-duty Chocolay Township Police Department officer caused a four-vehicle accident with injuries in Marquette on Friday.
The crash occurred at about 6 p.m. at the intersection of South Lake Street and U.S. 41.
Officers from the Marquette Police Department said that Officer Anthony Carrick of the Chocolay Township Police Department was in their city to pick up a juvenile runaway.
The runaway had been located by the Marquette officers during a traffic stop of a suspected stolen vehicle. After taking custody of the runaway, Carrick drove down South Lake Street in his squad car.
Officers said that Carrick entered U.S. 41 and was struck by a northbound vehicle operated by Andrew Mills. Mills' vehicle crossed the center line and struck a southbound vehicle operated by Carl Jamison. Jamison's vehicle then struck another southbound vehicle operated by Howard Tobin.
According to officers, investigation revealed that Carrick failed to yield to oncoming traffic as he entered U.S. 41.
Occupants of Carrick's vehicle and Mills' vehicle were transported to Marquette General Hospital for treatment of injuries, said officers.
