FLORENCE, Wis. - Florence County's finances were strong last year, according to the 2013 final county audit.
The Florence County Board of Commissioners was presented with the results of the audit by Wisconsin consulting firm Schenk and Associates at its Tuesday meeting.
Schenk and Associates gave a high opinion of the county's financial situation, with no major changes recommended.
The county closed out 2013 with $4,651,136 in its general fund, up from $4,321,713 in 2012. Government fund balances totaled $5,461,632 at the end of last year, up from $5,000,861 in 2012.
A capital improvement plan for the 2015-19 period is being development, following a recommendation from Schenk and Associates.
In other business, the board:
- Approved an operational agreement between Florence County and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
The purpose of the agreement is to identify the responsibilities of the county and the NRCS regarding the administration and training of field office employees; the provision, use, and responsibility for equipment and supplies; the maintenance of fiscal and activity reports; and to define responsibilities relating to the development of conservation policies and priorities.
- Observed a moment of silence in honor of Dan Chiamulera, who passed away on July 13. Chiamulera worked as a sergeant for the Florence County Sheriff's Department for more than 27 years.
