CRYSTAL FALLS - Goodman-Pembine High School's volleyball coach showed her strength in the eighth annual U.P. Strongman Competition at the Nylund Food Center.
Ashley Kalkofen, a two-time champion from Armstrong Creek, won the women's open division with 23 points. She edged Kate Trautschold of Appleton, 21, for top honors.
Armstrong Creek had another champion with Patrick Millan, Ashley's father, winning the men's masters (over 40 years of age) title.

In the men's heavyweight class, Ryan Martin of Crystal Falls, 14, prevailed over Dustin Fanson of Marquette, 9, and Michael Dempsey of Sault Ste. Marie, 7.
A tiebreaker was needed in the men's lightweight division where Steven Krentz of Alpena defeated Tim Martin of Crystal Falls.
The weightlifting event was hosted by the Friends of Forest Park Football. Proceeds went to the Forest Park High School football program.
