First featured is the home of John and Lynn Quillico, "The New Stone Cottage" located at 1538 Railroad Lake Road in Spread Eagle.
Built in the 1920s, the original structure on the property was a log cabin atop a stone basement. When a fire destroyed the cabin in the 1940s, the two-foot thick foundation was transformed into the walls of a cozy stone cottage, which essentially was the structure purchased in 1994. From 1994 to 2013, the cottage became the family's summer residence.
In May 2013, the existing building was demolished, clearing the way for the construction of a year-round home. Using the old cottage as inspiration, the owners designed a new retreat that incorporated the look and character of the old place as much as possible. Thus they chose quarried stone for the new exterior, smoky hickory flooring for the main level, granite countertops, tiled showers and bathrooms and a warm color palette throughout. Connected covered porches on the front and rear provide additional opportunities to enjoy the spectacular views of the Spread Eagle chain.
This layout encompasses 2,800 square fee of indoor living space on three levels, including three bedrooms, three and a half baths, and a bar area. A spacious sheltered patio offers additional outdoor seating as well as easy access to the lower level. A detached four-car garage provides ample storage.
