BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Ottawa County officials say two people including a Good Samaritan have been hospitalized after being hit by a car on a roadside.

The Grand Rapids Press reports ( ) 51-year-old David Pierson of Zeeland was in critical condition and 17-year-old Samantha Brown of Hudsonville was in serious but stable condition after the accident late Saturday.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department says 18-year-old driver Jenna Esterley had tried to pull over to check her GPS but went into a ditch. Brown was her passenger.

Authorities say Pierson stopped to help. Brown had gotten out and was talking with Pierson when they were hit.

Police say 22-year-old driver Jeremy Vedders of Hudsonville says he didn't see them or the car until the collision. They say the disabled vehicle didn't have any lights on.
