Gussert’s 9 points helps MSU rout Charleston

EAST LANSING — Behind 18-point performances from senior forward Kennedy Johnson and freshman forward Sidney Cooks, the Michigan State women’s basketball team improved to 3-0 with a 107-43 win over College of Charleston on Monday.

This is the first time in school history that the Spartans have scored at least 95 points in the first three games of the season.

Redshirt-sophomore forward Victoria Gaines earned her second career double-double and first of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

Crystal Falls senior Lexi Gussert played 21 minutes for the Spartans, scoring nine points with five rebounds and three assists.

Michigan State will now hit the road for the first time this season, taking on in-state foe Detroit tonight. The Spartans remain on the road during the Thanksgiving holiday to take part in the PK80 Invitational. MSU will face No. 1 UConn on Saturday, Nov. 25, in Eugene, Ore,. at 3 p.m. EST.
