Balanced scoring lifts Flivvs past Oredockers
ASHLAND, Wis. — Daunte Fortner, Alek Shanks and Joe Murvich each scored two goals as Kingsford downed Ashland 7-1 in high school hockey Saturday.
The Flivvers (3-0-1) built a 3-0 lead after the first period. Shanks scored from Fortner and Eamonn Weed in the first minute of the game.
Murvich, with an assist from Trent Juul, followed with a scoring shot from the top of the circle. David Brule added the third goal.
Fortner, taking a back-door pass from Sawyer Perpich, scored on a power play goal. Murvich added an unassisted goal. A Shanks’ break-away goal padded the margin to 6-0.
Fortner capped the Flivvers scoring with an unassisted shorthanded break-away goal.
The Flivvers outshot the Oredockers 32-19.
Fortner, Shanks and Murvich also had assists with their two goals. Perpich and Juul each posted two assists.
Kingsford plays its home opener Tuesday, meeting Houghton at 6 p.m. at Mountain View Arena.
