Girls Basketball: Forest Park handles Carney-Nadeau, 53-20

CARNEY — Forest Park’s defense keyed a 53-20 girls basketball decision over Carney-Nadeau on Tuesday.

Forest Park led 10-3 after the first quarter and 32-8 at halftime of the Skyline Central Conference affair.

“We played really good defense,” said Lady Trojans coach Jackie Giuliani. “Everybody got playing time and it was a great team effort.”

Becky Kolenda led the Trojans (2-1 overall and league) with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Abby Nylund added 16.

Giuliani praised Kolenda, Nylund (9 of 10 free throws) and Hanna Logan (6 assists, 4 steals).

“We couldn’t get anything going offensively,” said Carney coach Travis Depuydt. “We weren’t attacking and the shots weren’t falling. They got into transition on our turnovers.”

Sara Sivula hit seven for the Wolves (1-2 overall and league).

Carney hit just 18 percent from the field and committed 23 turnovers.

Forest Park sank 12-of-14 free throws and the Wolves were 6-of-12 from the line.

Forest Park won the JV contest 38-35.
