Knights second, Mountaineers fourth
ESCANABA — The Munising cheerleaders claimed a pair of victories Thursday in the Escanaba Elks Cheer Invitational while the host Eskymos added the other gold medal.
Munising’s varsity squad took Division 4 with a total of 676.26 points and the middle school Mustangs won their division with 421.74 points.
Escanaba presented a going away present to coach Kris Langlois by taking the D-3 title with 721.84 points. Prior to the awards presentation, Langlois announced to the large crowd that he was stepping down as coach after the season.
Gladstone was second in D-3 varsity with 687.94 points.
Norway was second in D-4 with 648.58 points, with Manistique third with 642.9 and Iron Mountain fourth with 637.94.
Gladstone Middle School was second with 408.1 points, Escanaba was third with 379.08 and Manistique was fourth with 321.06.
Many of these same teams were scheduled to compete at the Gladstone Invitational today but that meet has been called off because not enough judges were available.
