NORWAY — Jordan Kraemer’s 21 points helped Norway sink Stephenson 69-23 on Monday.

Kraemer’s performance also helped her surpass Diana Milligan as Norway girls basketball’s all-time scorer. Kraemer reached 1,000 points last season as a junior.

The Knights (13-0, 6-0 Mid-Peninsula Conference) focused on shooting in the first half to extend a 43-11 halftime lead. Norway coach Carli Kelly said Stephenson’s 1-3-1 defense gave her team a chance to focus on outside shooting.

“They played a 1-3-1 so it was a nice chance for us to get some shooting in,” Kelly said. (“Kelly) Madigan likes when the other team plays zone because she knows she’s going in and shooting some 3’s. We were able to shoot from the corner and shoot from the top. They were missing their freshman point guard. She was out sick so that kind of hurt them a bit.”

Madigan knocked down three 3-pointers, while Jada Lasater hit a pair and Britta Grayvold hit one.

Kelly said Norway focused on attacking the basket in the second half after Stephenson switched to a man defense. She liked the contribution from the whole team during the win, especially her bench, where Mikayla Faull came in and scored 15 points.

“Any one of them can go in the game and pitch in when needed,” Kelly said. “Faull had a nice game today. She does really well in a halfcourt game setting. I can rely on her to go and get some good baskets for us.”

The Knights play at Westwood today and host Negaunee on Friday.

Norway will honor Kraemer’s achievement with a pre-game ceremony before its Feb. 16 game against Gwinn.

Norway JV won.
