FELCH — North Dickinson converted 18 of 24 free throws in the fourth quarter and turned back Republic-Michigamme 60-58 in non-conference boys basketball Tuesday.

The Nordics (5-11) trailed 26-25 at halftime.

“It was close fought the entire way,” said North Dickinson coach Chris Mattson. “We didn’t play very well in the first half and Republic played better. We pressured the ball better (in the second half). We were able to play defense without fouling at the end of the game.”

North Dickinson converted 20 of 30 free throws in the game. Garrett O’Neil hit 10 of 16 free throws in the game and Tyler Halfaday made all six of his fourth-quarter attempts.

“We were aggressive and made enough free throws,” Mattson said of his Nordics going to the free-throw line. “But it was a hack-fest.”

O’Neil 21 points and seven rebounds led the Nordics. Hunter Mattson chipped in 11 points while Devin Wagner and Halfaday each had 10.

“Halfaday played aggressive and gave us a spark,” said Mattson, noting the senior started the second half.

Dylan Hanninen’s 18 points led the Hawks.

North Dickinson plays a make-up game tonight at Forest Park.

The Nordics beat the Hawks 65-27 in the junior varsity game.
