Skiing: Knights 7th at regionals
Harbor Springs takes boys, girls championships
HARBOR SPRINGS — Norway placed seventh in the MHSAA Division 2 regional boys ski meet at Nub’s Nob.
The Knights finished sixth in giant slalom and eighth in slalom.
Harbor Springs, 63, took the boys title over Petoskey (70), Great North Alpine (85), Charlevoix (120), Grayling (242), Gaylord (245), Norway (271), Ironwood (291), Boyne City (297) and Glen Lake (306).
Allie Sheski led the Knights with a 19th in giant slalom (56.27) and 25th in slalom (1:22.65). She was followed by David Loomis, 24th and 40th; Erick Schultz, 33rd and 37th; Alex Heigl, 45th and 48th.
Great North Alpine’s Finn Husband won the regional giant slalom title (51.56) while Charlevoix’s Brad Klinger took the slalom (1:11.76).
None of the Norway racers advanced to the state meet.
“These were long tough set courses, getting the best of several racers,” said Knights coach Steve Sheski. “David Loomis was one of them, but he left everything on the hill with his last slalom run. He hiked twice to finish the course.”
Harbor Springs, with 60 points, also captured the girls regional title. Houghton (96) was runner-up.
Norway’s next and final high school race of the season is at Mt Ripley in Hancock on Tuesday for the UP Finals.
