Kingsford’s Ian Wienke has been invited to next month’s National Football League regional combine in Minneapolis.

While some college football players head to Indianapolis for an NFL scouting combine, others travel to sites like Minneapolis on March 4 for evaluation.

Wienke recently participated in Dream Bowl V in Virginia Beach, another spot to check out pro football hopefuls.

“The Dream Bowl was a great experience,” said Wienke, a tight end at Michigan Tech University. “Spending four days with great players from across the country was definitely something I’ll never forget.

“Looking back, I’d say things went smoothly. Practices gave me a chance to get back into the swing of things and the game itself was a lot of fun.”

In a Dream Bowl scoring record, Wienke (6-foot-5, 267) helped the Crusaders beat the Patriots 38-30. Primarily a blocking tight end at MTU, he caught three passes for 52 yards including one for a touchdown in the Dream Bowl.

“I was able to catch every ball that got my hands on,” said Wienke, who snared one of the three for 33 yards. “The coaches I had there were awesome. They brought a lot of energy every day and it definitely rubbed off on me.

“I’m glad I got the chance to display my talents at this event.”

My sources indicate Ian has also heard from the Canadian Football League …

Detroit Tigers pocket schedules, thanks to the Miggy Cabrera-like efforts of editorial assistant Chris Tomassucci, have arrived at The Daily News. They’re free for the taking.

Chris has also contacted the Brewers and Cubs for schedules …

Pembine High School grad Johnathon Coats hopes to make the grade in professional golf, playing a mini tour event in Jacksonville, Fla., this week and a qualifier for the Valspar Championship the following week.

The son of Dave and Judy Coates of Pembine starred for the Panthers golf team in high school.

“I have the grit to stick with it,” Coates, a Virginia Beach, Va., said on Facebook. “My time is coming.”

Thanks to one of my favorite basketball coaches for the information …

From BJ Kissel of Chiefs.com: “In 1992, the Packers had five future NFL head coaches on staff in Andy Reid, Jon Gruden, Dick Jauron, Ray Rhodes and Steve Mariucci. They combined to win more than 550 games in the NFL.”

At last word, Mooch was supposed to be in town this weekend for the ski jumping tournament …
