Badgers rally past Tigers
GILLETT, Wis. — Niagara scored five runs in the seventh inning and defeated Gillett/Suring 8-5 in M&O Conference softball Friday.
Coach Duane Blagec’s Badgers (7-6, 6-4) trailed 2-0 in the second inning, 3-1 in the fifth and 5-3 in the sixth.
Badgers pitcher Jayden Payette allowed four hits, struck out four and walked two. Saran Nawn and Taylor Tushoski each had two of Niagara’s seven hits.
Niagara’s first run came in the fourth when Abi McCarthy singled, stole two bases and scored on a passed ball.
The Badgers tied the game 3-3 in the sixth inning with two runs. Nawn tripled home Tushoski with one run. Nawn scored the tying run on a Maddy Colburn groundout.
In the seventh, singles from Peyton Aderman, Tushoski and Nawn along with a “perfect bunt” from McCarthy keyed the rally. Jasmine Racine tripled off the fence.
Niagara participates today in the Kingsford Invitational.
