Flivvers blank T-Birds

Girls Soccer

KINGSFORD — Kingsford scored a pair of second-half goals and blanked Lakeland, Wis., 2-0 in girls soccer Friday at Commemorative Field.

Grace Lorenzoni and Brianna Robinson scored unassisted goals.

Kingsford (6-0-1) was coming off a 1-0 win over Iron Mountain on Thursday.

“I was very worried about a letdown after a very tough win, and it kinda sorta came to fruition,” said Flivvers coach Jon Lorenzoni. “We played very uninspired soccer in the first half, weathered the storm, and then picked it up in the second half.”

Grace Lorenzoni scored at the 34th minute and Robinson found the net four minutes later.

“Grace made a nice effort to create space and got us on the board,” Lorenzoni said. “Bri was playing a second straight night on a bad ankle. She’s a real tough kid.”

The Flivvers coach also cited goalie Abby Person and freshman Bailey Johnson.

“Abby Person was solid with her communication and stopping wet balls,” Lorenzoni said. “Bailey Johnson had another outstanding game. I couldn’t be happier with the first half of our season.”

Kingsford was missing four players for the match.

“We’re a little beat up right now,” Lorenzoni said. “We have a very tough week ahead. Hopefully, we get healthy this weekend.”

Kingsford faces Iron Mountain on Monday, travels to Marquette on Wednesday and competes in a tournament at Waupaca, Wis., on Saturday, May 13.
