Flivvers notch 11th win
Girls Soccer
MARINETTE, Wis. — Kingsford closed out the girls soccer season by nearly matching a team record for wins.
The Flivvers, with Tori DalSanto and Abbey Erickson scoring first-half goals, blanked the Marines 2-0 Monday. Hannah Carlson assisted on the Erickson goal.
Kingsford (11-3-2) finished one win short of tying a girls soccer school record for wins in a season. A team from 10 years ago wound up 12-0-2.
“It was a nice way to end the year,” said Kingsford Coach Jon Lorenzoni. “I thought we dominated the game possession-wise and limited Marinette to very few quality chances. It was a nice way to send off the seniors.”
DalSanto’s goal came from about 22 yards out, Lorenzoni said.
“Tori’s goal came off a nice low ball,” Lorenzoni said. “She’s been on a minimum shot chart lately. Coach (Libby) DeClark told a few of the girls to shoot more. She was one of them.
“It was nice to see Abbey E get on the board. She’s created a lot of chances lately.”
The coach cited Carly Schneider and DalSanto for a doing a “a great job dominating the middle of the field.”
“Maddy Ryan came through in the clutch a couple times towards the end of the game,” Lorenzoni said. “She made some big plays.”
The Flivvers lost three matches by 1-0 scores this season.
“We were competitive in every game and the girls had a lot of fun this year,” said the first-year head soccer coach. “I’ll chalk that up as a success any time.”
