MPC names softball stars

NEGAUNEE — Five players from Norway and Iron Mountain have been named to the All-Mid-Peninsula Conference softball first team.

Knights sophomore infielders Ada VanHolla and Alli Sheski, senior infielder Jordan Kraemer and senior outfielder Britta Grayvold made the top team with the Mountaineers’ senior infielder Paige Fortner and senior outfielder Kaitlyn Henderson.

Shae Blewett, Liz Farley and Karlie Patron of Westwood, and Korey Kaukola of Ishpeming filled out the first team.

Maddy Mattias of Westwood was named MPC Player of the Year. VanHolla and Fortner were also nominated for the award.

Westwood’s Megan Pohlman and Ishpeming’s Emma Bleau shared MPC Pitcher of the Year.

Westwood’s Heather Salmi was selected manager of the year. The MPC tourney champion Patriots shared the regular season title with Norway.

Norway senior infielder Jada Lasater and junior outfielder Karli Stanchina landed MPC second-team berths.

Iron Mountain’s Reighan Johnson and Saylor Swartout received honorable mention.
