Nordics 2nd in SCC track

RAPID RIVER — Lucas Sundling was feeling a little under the weather during Tuesday’s Skyline Central Conference track meet.

That would have been hard to tell by his performance, however, as junior sprinter had a hand in four firsts while helping the Rapid River boys retain their title with 160 points.

North Dickinson and Munising shared the runner-up spot at 79 and fourth-place North Central had 76.

Sundling captured the 200-meter dash in a school-record 22.97 seconds. He also took the 100 (11.41) and 400 (53.11) and helped the winning 800 relay (1:38.49).

“I’m battling a chest cold which makes it a little harder to breathe,” he said. “My 400 time is a little slower than last year. I’m running in four events and I’m a little more tired in the 400. Last year I was just running in two events. I’ve been mostly running in the 23s in the 200. Mr. O just wanted me to work on my starts and I tried to start out a little quicker and sprint the corners.”

North Dickinson senior Garrett O’Neil captured the 110 hurdles (16.21) and 300s (41.53).

North Central, also missing several of its athletes for various reasons, won the 1600 relay (3:49.53).

Junior Connor Robinson provided the Jets with a first in the 1600 (4:56.78) and second in the 800 (2:15.4).

Munising’s girls ran away with the Skyline Central Conference track title, scoring 163.5 points.

They were followed by North Dickinson 82, Bark River-Harris 71 1/2 and Mid Peninsula 70.

Senior Michaela Peramaki won pole vault with a school and meet-record leap of 11 feet, three inches. She also took the 100-meter dash in a school-record 12.44 seconds and long jump (16-0)

Freshman Madeleine Peramaki copped the 800-meter run in two-minutes, 29.22 seconds, 1600 (5:35.14) and 3200 (12:46.15).

North Central freshman Alex Neville also set a school record in pole vault, earning runner-up honors at 8-1.

Toriana Christian provided North Dickinson with a first in shot put (30-4), three inches further than BR-H freshman Gracie Peterson.

The Nordics also took the 1600 relay (4:34.45), nearly five seconds ahead of Mid Pen.
