Speedway draws former champions

Season opener tonight

NORWAY — It all starts tonight.

Norway Speedway will open its summer of stockcar racing with one of the most powerful opening night fields of cars that we have ever seen.

As we predicted weeks ago, the early entries indicated that tonight’s show was going to be epic. There are too many big names to mention them all but the headliners include Dalton Zehr from Florida, Dan Lindsley from Michigan and Dylan Kralovetz, Mike Reichenberger, Troy Nelson nd Reagan May from Wisconsin.

Just this group of drivers alone have tallied a total of nine Norway Speedway track championships and an overall count of almost 20 out of state championships.

The Coca Cola Late Model feature tonight will be a classic border war and everyone that is competing better bring their “A Game.”

In the Auto Value Super Stock Division, Tim Schultz Jr, Mark Jenshak and Brett Bray have been practicing at record-breaking speeds. The track qualifying record of 15.77 held by Ryan Windell in 2004 is in danger. Tonight’s field of Auto Value Super Stocks could be the largest we have seen in many years.

The 141 Auto Sportsman Division should have another great field of cars fueled by a number of first and second-year drivers. Our practice sessions have been filled with young drivers, new to the sport wheeling full size, rear wheel drive, V8 engines with minimal experience. The mixture of the rookies and veterans could prove to make a very interesting feature event.

Joe Ostermann will be back to defend his title but Savanna Novara has a brand new Camaro and Preston Weddel is due.

In the Fab Four Division,Elliott Reid of Faithorn will have his work cut out defending his track title as veteran and past track champion Cody Skog is making a return to the Speedway after a four-year absence.

However, it will not just be these two drivers in the run. Adam Faull has a new car and Reid Devoe has another year of experience.

The Wisconsin Sport Trucks will also be in action with several of our locals including Brad Barglind, Gary Thom and Kelly Burcar.

Time trials are at 5:45 p.m. and racing starts at 7.

Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $7 for students (7 years and up), children (7 and under) and active military free.

For questions, call 906-361-0597 or go to norwayspeedway.com or visit us on facebook.

See you at the track!
