Soccer’s U18 Stars throttle foes

NIAGARA, Wis. — Niagara Northern Stars U18 boys, sparked by the return of Dane Stanchina, thumped New Holstein 11-1 at Riverside Park.

The Stars, 3-3-1 in the East Central League, also played Kiel to a 1-1 draw Monday.

Stanchina came off the injured list to lead the Stars with a three goals and an assist. Hunter Lenczuk also recorded a hat trick.

“We played outstanding defense,” said Coach Greg Kulas, noting Kiel was limited to two shots on goal for the game. “We had numerous scoring opportunities.”

David Brule scored the lone goal midway through the first half.

The Stars will play this weekend at the Appleton Summer Shootout tournament.
