Two’s enough for track title
Coleman, with just two boys at the state meet, took WIAA Division 3 track and field honors for a second straight year in La Crosse.
The Cougars relied on seniors and cousins, Gunnar Patz and Josh Pillath. They scored 43 points to best Rosholt, 39, and Spencer, 29.5.
“It’s not the number, it’s the quality of the competitors,” Coleman Coach Keith Long told Jody Korch of The EagleHerald.
Pillath won state titles in the 110 hurdles (14.95) and 300 hurdles (38.76 seconds), placed second in the discus and wound up eighth in the high jump (6-feet-2).
Niagara’s Adam Parent ran a school-record 39.85 last year to beat Pillath and win the D3 300 hurdles state title.
Patz was second in the 100 dash (11.62) and third in the 200 (22.85).
Both Pillath (track, decathlon) and Patz (football) are headed to the University of North Dakota. …
