Florence Diggers down Kingsford for league title

KINGSFORD — Florence Diggers played error-free softball and defeated Kingsford Classic Auto Collision 9-4 to win the Little League junior-senior (age 13-16) softball championship at Lodal Park.

Florence Coach Craig Tomczak cited his team’s defense led by center fielder Jordyn Springer.

“Jordyn had two great catches to rob hitters of extra-base hits,” Tomczak said. “Jordyn had a great all around game getting on base three times and scoring two of our runs.”

Diggers pitchers Sidney Tomczak and Faith Neuens allowed six hits while striking out six and walking three.

Diggers’ Kendra Milan hit a double and single, and Sidney Tomczak had two singles. Faith Neuens, Jordyn Springer, Lacey Enders, Paige Uren and Madison Neuens each had one of the Diggers’ nine hits.

Teagan Petschar singled twice for Kingsford. Claire Mongrain, Zoey Geronimi, Kylie Mitchell and Claire Phillips each had one hit.
