NIAGARA, Wis. — Northern Stars U11B boys soccer team defeated EC Force of Kaukauna to close out its East Central Wisconsin League season with an undefeated record.

The Stars wound up 7-0-2 in the league and 11-2-3 overall including two tournaments where the only two losses occurred.

In Appleton’s “Kicking for a Cure” tournament the Stars lost to Fox Cities Avengers 1-0 in the finals. They bowed by a 3-2 margin to eventual champion Neenah in the Oshkosh “By the Water” tournament.

The U11 Stars vindicated themselves the following week by besting the same Neenah team 1-0 in league play.

“We are very proud of these boys,” said Coach Jim Laydon. “They have practiced together for a few years and we wanted to see what they could do in the East Central Wisconsin League.”

The team consists of nine and 10-year-olds that were moved up with the coaches seeking a higher level of competition.

“They really stepped up,” said Laydon, noting runner-up honors in one of the biggest tournaments in the Midwest and second in the league. “We are very excited about next year as this group will again be in the U11 age bracket and it will be very interesting to see how far they can go.”

The U11B Northern Stars will hold open try-outs in early August for those seeking a higher level of soccer and born in 2007 or 2008.
