Volleyball: Niagara edges Wausaukee
NIAGARA, Wis. — Niagara avenged a season-opening loss and defeated Wausaukee 3-2 (16-25, 25-23, 12-25, 26-24, 15-12) in M&O Conference girls volleyball Tuesday.
The Rangers swept the Badgers 2-0 in a late-August match.
“What a game,” said Niagara head coach Carol St. Arnauld. “They wanted redemption and it showed. They played with so much heart and hustle that it was hard not to get caught up in the emotion of it all.”
Errors contributed to Niagara losses in sets one and three.
“We had a good lead in game 4 and Wausaukee came right back,” St. Arnauld said. “But my team persevered and finished strong. Going into game 5 my team was ready and it was a nail biter.”
Cassie Gill’s 12 kills and Abi McCarthy’s 26 assists led the Badgers (6-7-2, 5-2). Kylee Smith’s 11 kills, Sirina Tyler’s 28 digs and Callie Orlando’s 21 assists paced the Rangers.
“Tonight’s win truly showed how exciting this game really can be,” St. Arnauld said. “When you can go five games against a good team and finish with the win, it’s a great night.
“My team needs to continue to pass and serve well along with being strong at the net. They do these things and we will be successful.”
The Badgers visit Coleman on Thursday.
