Football: North Central blows out Carney-Nadeau, 82-6

POWERS — The North Central football team came to play Friday as it blew out Carney-Nadeau 82-6.

The Jets had all phases working as they had two interceptions returned for touchdowns from Travis Bentley and Noah Gorinski.

Lucas Dombrowski returned a punt return 47 yards for touchdown and Hunter Riley had a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on special teams.

“We played really fast tonight,” said North Central coach Kevin Bellefeuil. “We added four kids from the jayvees and that puts more speed on our roster. The kids were pushing for playing time all week.”

Trenton Schaff had two rushing touchdowns of 31 and eight yards while Cole Timblin had a 27-yard touchdown run and Dombrowski added a 32-yard score on the ground.

Riley had three touchdown passes to Shaun Gogolewski for 52 yards, Schaff for two yards and Austin Poupore for six yards.

Carney scored its only touchdown right before halftime on a hook and ladder to Brett LaFord for 75 yards.

North Central will head to Rapid River Friday in a showdown with the top-ranked Rockets.

ALSO: Rapid River and Stephenson met Friday night in the battle of the top two teams in eight-player football and it did not disappoint.

The second-ranked Rockets pulled out the upset 16-14 in what was a defensive battle.

Brent Lundquist hit a wide open Logan Hardwick on a 41-yard touchdown pass to take a 16-14 lead into halftime.

“We ran a play call and no one knew what it was,” Hardwick said. “So we just ran on our own and I ran a fade route. The kid bit on Brent running the ball and he saw me wide open and threw it to me for the touchdown.”
