Volleyball: Gresham eliminates Niagara

GRESHAM, Wis. — Gresham ended Niagara’s volleyball season Thursday, downing the Badgers 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-18) in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal.

“We couldn’t get a rhythm going,” said Niagara head coach Carol St. Arnauld. “We had moments of greatness but they were sporadic and too infrequent.

“Gresham was scrappy and kept us on our toes and they played smart. This year we had two sophomores and two freshman that were in our starting line-up, so we were young and at times, especially tonight, it showed.”

Jasmine Racine and Allison Wells each had five kills for the Badgers (11-17-3).

“It’s unfortunate that our season comes to an end tonight,” St. Arnauld said. “I know we are a better team than we played, but sometimes that’s just how it goes.”

The veteran coach expressed appreciation to seniors Allison Wells, Sydney Weber, Maddie West, Addelynn Amundson and Abi McCarthy.

“I would never doubt their love for the game,” she said. “They all will be greatly missed.”

Three Lakes will host Gresham for the regional title Saturday.
