Week 8: This week’s high school football matchups

Week 8 Matchups

West Iron County became the next team in the area to qualify for the playoffs after Norway last week. The Wykons beat Northland Pines 20-8 in a homecoming win on Saturday.

The Knights lost their first game of the year in a 28-14 bout against Newberry.

Kingsford, with five wins, is the other Michigan team in the area heading to the playoffs following a 42-7 win in the 93rd meeting with rival Iron Mountain last week. Six wins is the marker for teams to reach the playoffs, but Kingsford’s It was the Flivvers’ sixth straight win against the Mountaineers and 20th since 1990. The all-time series is now tied 45-45-3.

Sitting at five wins, Northern Elite are likely already in the playoffs. Wisconsin high school playoffs are determined by conference standings. Typically teams make the playoffs if they finish better than .500 in their division. The Predators (5-3) could ensure a trip to the postseason with a win Friday. They are tied for third in the MONLPC-Small division with Crivitz — the two teams meet Friday in Niagara.
