Week 9: This week’s high school football matchups

The final week of the Michigan high school regular season is here.

Wisconsin teams enter the first week of the playoffs. Northern Elite (5-4) made the playoffs for the 13th consecutive year despite losing 31-28 loss to Crivitz last week. Both teams were tied for third in the MONLPC-Small going into last week’s game.

Northern Elite, seeded No. 7, plays at No. 2 Marathon at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Crivitz plays Laona-Wabeno at Suring on Friday.

Florence ended its regular season with a flag football team between the varsity and JV teams. The Bobcats canceled three games this year after injuries wiped too many players from the roster. Talk of moving to eight-player has been tied with Florence’s football future. Next year is the last of a two-year agreement to play an 11-player schedule.

Iron Mountain may have played its final Mid-Peninsula Conference game last week, a 28-12 loss to Gladstone. The Braves joined the MPC this year and as a result, five teams have applied for the West PAC, including Iron Mountain. Westwood, Ishpeming, Negaunee, Munising, Norway and Gwinn have also applied to join the West PAC.
