KINGSFORD — The Kriegl sisters teamed up for 20 points to help sink North Dickinson 67-45 in non-conference play on Tuesday.

Jordyn Kriegl had 13 points while Brooke Kriegl had seven. Renee Roberts led the Flivvers (1-0) with 14 points.

“I thought we played with a lot of intensity for the first game of the year. We’re looking to push that tempo and just play with a lot of intensity,” Kingsford coach Mike Cross said. “That’s one of our goals that we accomplished. I thought at times we pressured the ball really well and we went in spurts where we were able to put a lot of pressure on their guards and I thought it paid off.”

JuliAnn Wickman led North Dickinson with 12 points. Hannah Clark had nine points while Briana Smith and Tori Christian had eight points apiece.

The Nordics battled throughout the game despite falling to a 22-10 deficit after the first quarter. North Dickinson grabbed 35 rebounds, including 10 apiece by Hannah Clark and Skye Lidzian.

“I thought our girls played extremely hard tonight. They played excellent as a team,” first-year Nordics coach Kirk Mattson said. “We didn’t shoot very good tonight from the floor. We were only 35 percent from the floor. A lot of that had to do with pressure from Kingsford.”

Mattson said he considers Kingsford one of the better teams in the UP — a good measuring stick for his team to start the season.

“Our energy was very good,” Mattson said. “We did fall behind in the first half a bit but at halftime I said ‘You’re playing one of the best girls teams in the UP this year. Just go out and keep fighting.’ They did that.”

Kingsford plays at Westwood on Friday.

North Dickinson hosts Republic on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

Kingsford JV won 72-10.
