Boys basketball: Rapid River edges Forest Park, 58-54

CRYSTAL FALLS — Rapid River held off Forest Park 58-54 in Skyline Central Conference boys basketball Thursday at Eddie Chambers Gymnasium.

The Trojans (3-1, 2-1), according to head coach Chris Nocerini, trailed by 17 points in the third quarter and closed to 57-54 in the final seconds.

“We had a hiccup in that third quarter with a couple bad defensive trips but clawed back into it,” Nocerini said. “We had an opportunity to tie.”

Riley Hendrickson was fouled in the final seconds on a three-point shot but experienced tough luck at the free-throw line.

“There’s no other kid I’d want to shooting that ball,” Nocerini said. “Riley did a lot of good things to put us in that position.”

Max Nylund led Forest Park with 14 points, followed by Josh Logan with 11 and Jacob Frisanco with 10. Logan Hardwick topped Rapid with 24 points.

“In the first half we were playing to their pace offensively and we didn’t look confident in what we were doing,” Nocerini said. “Rapid River is a darn good basketball team.

“The team showed a lot of character. The kids were disappointed but the cup is more than half full with this team. We’ll regroup and get going.”

Forest Park hosts Florence on Monday.
