Mountaineers upend undefeated Westwood
IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain High School boys bowling team took care of business at home Saturday.
The Mountaineers thumped previously undefeated Westwood 36-4 at Recreation Lanes.
“We only get one home meet a season, so we have to make it count,” said Coach Pete Tomassoni. “After last week’s stinging defeat to Menominee, we practiced simplifying the game. If we could do the easier things well, we could overcome the difficult lane conditions. We had a good week of practice, and it paid off.”
Iron Mountain got out to a quick 6-0 lead by sweeping the Baker games 192-139 and 172-150. The boys then won all three match-play games 581-780, 880-688 and 925-800.
Lincoln Pettibone led the Mountaineers with a 564 three-game series which included games of 194 and 207. He was followed closely by Zach Hanson with 559 (201 and 191 games). Ian Driscoll tossed a 525 series (189 and 186 games). Zach Spera chipped in with a 204 game.
The undefeated Mountaineer X Team won its match 33-7 over Marquetteteam.
Leading the way was Trey Nichols with a 478 series with a high game of 185. Freshman Nathan Arndt followed with 457 including a 198 game.
The Combo X Team, comprised of bowlers from both Iron Mountain and Menominee teams, lost to Ishpeming X 30-10.
The Mountaineers travel to Ishpeming after the holidays for a double meet Saturday, Jan. 6, where they will play Ishpeming and Marquette.
