IRON MOUNTAIN — Northern Lights YMCA swim team participated in a pair of Wisconsin meets recently
Twelve teams from the UP and Wisconsin made their way to the Jingle Bell meet in Sturgeon Bay.
Dickinson and Delta County swimmers competed individually and as a team. The top 10 in each event received points toward the team trophy.
Caleb Plumley, who also swims for the Kingsford High School team, led the group with three firsts and one second.
Swimmers also competed in the Stingray Winterfest in Marinette, Wisconsin.
Anna Bolander, Joshua Cameron, Noah Cameron, Annabelle Ellison, Cadee Franklin, Mackenzie Gilroy, Myah Gilroy, Ben Goupell, Petra Grubb, Owen Labouef, Kaden Matuszewski, Adelaide McRoberts, Margot McRoberts, Andrew Nelson, Elena Nelson, Isaac Nelson, Ellison Powell, Noah Richmond, Clark Smith and Harvey Smith represented the Waves.
“Some of the swimmers improved their times and some challenged themselves to swim in events that they hadn’t before,” said a team spokesman. “First-year swimmer Noah Richmond raced in the lane next to experienced teammate Kaden Matuszewski in the 500-yard freestyle event. Their friendly competition pushed Kaden to improve his time by 19 seconds and Noah by one minute and 9 seconds.
“All of the swimmers placed high enough at the meet to earn at least one ribbon or medal at the meet.”
