Girls basketball: Nelson, Golliher lead WIC in win

IRON RIVER — Sophomores Emily Nelson and Eden Golliher combined for 35 points as West Iron County defeated L’Anse 71-40 in West PAC girls basketball Monday at Charles Greenlund Gymnasium.

The 6-foot-1 Nelson scored eight of her game-high 21 points in the first quarter when the Wykons took a 17-10 lead. The 6-foot Golliher added 14 points in the game.

“Emily had a real complete game offensive and defensively,” said WIC Coach Eric Shamion. “Both Emily and Eden have been playing really well inside. They’re hard to handle.”

The Wykons penetrated the Hornets’ 2-3 zone for a 32-16 halftime cushion.

Sarah Dix led L’Anse with 17 points.

The Wykons will play a make-up game tonight in Menominee.
