Mountaineers drill Emeralds

IRON MOUNTAIN — Riley Poupore’s 22 points and 11 rebounds powered Iron Mountain past Manistique 55-22 in Mid-Peninsula Conference girls basketball Monday.

Poupore shot 11 of 15 from the floor. Iron Mountain hit 24 of 50 field goals including five of 11 three-pointers.

The Mountaineers (4-12, 3-7) scored the first 18 points of the game before the winless Emeralds (0-17) got on the board in the final minute of the first quarter.

“We pushed the ball well in transition, that was important,” said IM Coach Katelynn Johnson. “We played together as a team. The girls are playing hard.”

Reagan Lundholm and Hanna Ellis each added eight IM points. Faith Bal had 12 of IM’s 35 rebounds. Saylor Swartout had six assists. Brianna Hoffman scored six points with five steals.

Renae Schuetter led Manistique with seven points.

The Mountaineers host Kingsford on Friday.

Iron Mountain won the junior varsity game 34-24.
