Ex-Bobcat leads Crivitz to hoops title

Crivitz’s husband and wife coaching duo of Brett and Molly Meyers guided the Wolverines to overdue M&O Conference championships.

Molly’s Wolverines won the league volleyball title for the first time since 2005.

Brett’s Wolverines ended a girls basketball title drought dating back 26 years.

“This feels sweet for everyone,” Brett Meyers, a former Florence coach, said in saluting the “work that’s been put in this program by the kids, parents and coaching staff. I’m so proud of everyone.”

The Press-Gazette noted that Crivitz girls basketball ruled the M&O in 1992 when Niagara had future college and pro great Anna DeForge and Coleman had Shelly Beaber (UWGB) …

“She couldn’t play the defense she normally does,” said Coach Matt Mattson. “But she’s a senior and she’s started over 80 games for us, so we let it roll a little bit with her, and I appreciate her effort.”

Kingsford did another superb job of hosting the Class D regional, where Chassell rallied in both games for the title …

WIKB broadcaster Troy Margoni piloted Forest Park’s junior varsity boys basketball program to a fine 15-5 ledger in his first year. They were coming off a 2-18 campaign …

Tommy Izzo’s coaching drew a “B” grade from Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press/USA Today Network.

“(The Michigan State coach) has dealt with more this season than in any of his previous 22 years,” Solari wrote. “His team has lost four games, though he has yet to extract their full potential.”
