Norway Youth Wrestling competes at state tourney

NORWAY — Norway Youth Wrestling participated in last month’s Michigan Youth Wrestling Association state championships at the Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo.

Three of 11 Norway wrestlers placed in the MYWAY competition. Mya Wright took home seventh in the girls division; Douglas Dabb, second; and Preston Roberts, eighth.

“We are very proud of all of our wrestlers,” said Sarah Dabb, vice president of Norway Youth Wrestling. “They put a lot of time and practice in, starting in November to get to this point. They finished hard and we hope to see them as well as others back next year.”

Norway Youth Wrestling said good-bye to veteran head coach Tracy Haferkorn this season.

“Tracy has put many years into this program and many appreciated his time and effort he put into the wrestlers,” Dabb said.

Norway Youth Wrestling board appointed Brandon Wright as the new head coach.

“We are excited to see what new ideas Brandon will bring to the program and hope that a thriving high school team for Norway will not be far off,” Dabb said.
