Stars Soccer: Boys U19 strikes quickly in clipping Kiel

Northern Stars Soccer

KIEL, Wis. — Northern Stars U19 boys soccer team scored three goals in six minutes to beat Kiel 6-1 in the East Central Soccer League.

The Stars (3-0) and Kiel played to a scoreless tie for the first 30 minutes before taking a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Dane Stanchina opened the scoring goal with a 10-yard shot off a pass from Ryan Hakamaki. Five minutes later, Will McCormick scored off an assist from Ben Backlund, and a minute later McCormick assisted Backlund.

In the second half, Backlund scored twice more. The first was a finish off a direct kick from Michael Kulas, and the second was a rebound off a blocked shot from Dane Stanchina.

Stanchina then closed the scoring off an assist from Caleb Plumley.

Kiel’s only goal was scored on a penalty kick late in the game.

“We quickly established a patient passing attack which frustrated Kiel throughout the game,” said Coach Greg Kulas. “This resulted in numerous scoring opportunities, but outstanding play by the Kiel goalkeeper kept the score close.”

The Stars have a week off before resuming play with a home game Sunday, June 3, against Kimberly.
