Major LL: IM holds off late Norway rally

IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain survived a no-out, bases-loaded jam in the final inning and edged Norway 4-3 in the Little League major (age 12-under) baseball pre-district Monday at Larry Barkle Eastside Field.

Iron Mountain advances to the district tournament Thursday in Escanaba. Norway and Kingsford will meet at 6 tonight in the knockout bracket, with the winner moving to the district.

North carried a 4-2 lead into the top of the sixth inning. Norway loaded the bases and pushed across one run until relief pitcher Fulton Stroud struck out the side.

Ian Marttila tripled and singled twice to lead North’s 12-hit attack. Matthew Colavecchi added a double and single.

Isaiah Anderson and Niko Burgoon each chipped in two hits while Beau Kralovec, Carson McLean and Eli Heathman each had one.

McLean, Anderson, Burgoon and McLean scored for North.

Norway pitchers Ian Popp and Wyatt Spade struck out eight and walked four.

Norway scored the first run in the top of the third inning but North answered with three in the bottom half. Both teams scored in the fourth inning.

Ryan Erickson and Blake Holmes each had a pair of singles for Norway. Mason Richtig, Ryan Ehlert and Hayden Amundson added one single apiece.

Erickson scored runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Amundson scored the other Norway run.

North pitchers Anderson and Stroud allowed seven hits and struck out 11.
