We won’t need to skimp in handing out Green Bay Packers pocket schedules at The Daily News.

Iron Mountain Welcome Center shared its huge supply of Packer pocket schedules along with the free magazine “Pure Spirits” featuring the 1968 World Series champion Detroit Tigers.

The pocket schedule, with former great Tony Canadeo on the cover, recognizes the 100 seasons of Packer football and the upcoming 14th NFL championship — if they can fix the secondary.

The magazine piece on the Tigers, authored by Dan Leach, includes an interview with catcher/radio broadcaster Jim Price and a nice picture of pitcher John Hiller of Breitung Township.

“We really had a tremendous clubhouse,” Price told Leach. “We had a ton of fun that summer and we also knew when we had to prepare for battle.”

The Tigers will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the championship season with events Friday, Sept. 7-9. Of course, those St. Louis Cardinals, who fell in seven games to the ’68 Tigers, will be the opponent.

Packers pocket schedules and “Pure Spirits” magazine are both available and free of charge at The Daily News and Iron Mountain Welcome Center.

Detroit Lions told editorial assistant Chris Tomassucci that pocket schedules will not be available until August. Typical! …

There’s also another “free” item available in The Daily News editorial office.

North Central has promoted assistant Mike Malone to head coach of the North Central boys basketball team.

“Good fit,” said former coach Adam Mercier, who stepped down after last season and a stellar career with three straight Class D state championships.

In another North Central move bordering on the impact of LeBron joining the Lakers, Norway’s Sweets McCarthy has taken a position as full-time custodian with the elementary school in Hermansville.

Sweets will have to drop several duties in the Norway athletic department but will remain director of the Don Hill Memorial Scholarship Basketball Tournament …
