Volleyball: Bobcats enter season with high expectations

FLORENCE, Wis. — Florence returns eight volleyball players from last season’s team that posted a perfect Northern Lakes Conference record and reached the WIAA sectional finals.

“I have high expectations for this team,” said Florence Coach Joan Canfield. “If we’re lacking in height, we make up for it in quickness and strength.”

The Bobcats graduated NLC star Shayla McLain. However, All-NLC first-team setter Karmen Anderson and second-team middle hitter Bailey Apfel are back along with Cassie Larson, Savannah Vassar, Sidnie Steber, Taylor Schuls, Jordyn Springer and Jenna Springer.

“This is a good group of athletes with a great work ethic and desire to win,” Canfield said.

Florence competes today in the Great Eight Classic in Norway. Bobcats play their home opener Thursday, Sept. 6, against Laona-Wabeno and Phelps.
