Volleyball: IM bounces back to take down Miners, 3-1
NEGAUNEE — Iron Mountain shook off a first-set loss to beat Negaunee 3-1 (18-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16) in West PAC volleyball Monday.
“We were out of sync and gave up many points through miscommunication,” IM coach Jeanne Newberry said of the first-set loss. “In the second set we found our rhythm and as the tempo of the game changed, we started swinging at the ball successfully.”
Newberry cited the team’s movement and communication increasing in the second set.
“We have some very talented tall girls at the net,” Newberry said. “Their ability to take the speed off the opponent’s hits, allows our defense to create good offensive plays.”
The Mountaineers collected 46 kills, with Jacqui Rollins, Mackenzie Swanson and Riley Poupore leading the way. Hanna Ellis led in assists with 21.
Mountaineers (10-1-1, 1-0) travel to Ishpeming on Thursday.
Iron Mountain’s junior varsity defeated Ishpeming 2-1. The Mountaineer freshmen lost to the Hematites.
