Volleyball: Injuries befall Badgers in Crivitz Invitational

CRIVITZ, Wis. — The injury bug continues to strike Niagara volleyball.

The Badgers began the season Tuesday in the Crivitz Invitational, beating Crandon for their lone win in four matches. They lost to Mercer, Laona-Wabeno and Carney-Nadeau.

“We started out the tournament missing one of our starting middles and brought up a freshman who did well for us considering it was her first high school game,” said Niagara coach Carol St. Arnauld, referring to Bailey Pearson accounting for five kills.

After beating Crandon, St. Arnauld said her team played well in one game with Mercer.

“The second game was filled with minor mistakes that we let get us down,” she said.

The Badgers lost a starting outside hitter to an ankle injury in Tuesday’s tournament.

“Considering all that was thrown at this team, they did OK,” St. Arnauld said. “We have a lot to clean up and need to gain confidence in our ability.”

The Badgers visit Oneida on Thursday. They compete Saturday in the Great Eight in Norway.

“This is a young team with an enormous amount of talent,” St. Arnauld said. “We just need everyone back so we can put it all together.

“The rest of this week we will be experimenting a little in hopes of developing more confidence and filling some open positions.”
