IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain forced three fumbles and an interception in the first quarter alone and ripped Bark-River Harris 55-0 in a WestPAC football contest that was over before most fans settled in Friday evening at Mountaineer Stadium.

“It was a good team win at home,” Mountaineers head coach Robin Marttila said. “We were able to capitalize on some turnovers and that really set the tone for the game.”

The Mountaineers (4-1, 3-1) had five different players score touchdowns, led by Caleb Evosevich-Hynes’ three rushing scores. Evosevich-Hynes motored for 151 yards on just five first-half carries, scoring on runs of 6, 30 and 52 yards. Adrian Barraza added a pair of scores, totaling 43 yards on eight carries.

“We have a lot of playmakers, and we did a good job of spreading the ball around tonight,” Marttila said.

Marcus Johnson connected on four of six pass attempts, and helped push the score to 35-0 at the end of the first quarter when he connected with tight end Charlie Gerhard on a well-placed 20-yard strike down the near sideline. Johnson also ran for a score, keeping one from the Broncos’ 9 earlier in the frame.

“Marcus threw the ball well, very efficient,” Marttila said. “We had contributions up and down the roster.”

The Broncos fumbled the game’s opening kick and things only got worse for them from there. A hard-hitting and quick Mountaineers defense didn’t allow the Broncos to gain any traction. The Broncos also dealt with the loss of two key players, as Devon Kurz went down in pregame warmups and Devin Racicot was hurt just two plays into the game.

“I don’t have guys that have enough quality reps, and it left us scrambling from the get go,” Broncos head coach Al Stenberg said. “Turnovers have been a problem all year. Then when were missing a couple of our studs, things got ugly fast.”

The Broncos (1-4, 0-4) best drive came in the fourth quarter, but their 10-play, 50-plus yard drive was stopped at the 11 when Brent Aman recovered the fourth Broncos fumble of the night.

Eric Viau’s 66 yards on 11 trips led the Broncos, who were limited to jut 127 yards of total offense.

Iron Mountain racked up 400 yards, including 335 on the ground. Zach Herrick led the defense with nine tackles and fumble. Jake Dumais and Jacob Maxon also pounced on fumbles for the Mountaineers. Barraza added an interception.

“This was another step in the right direction for us,” Marttila said. “We have some things we need to take care, like penalties. We had way too many penalties, but overall it was a good solid win. We’ll enjoy this one tonight and then set our sights on Calumet.”

The Mountaineers host the undefeated Copper Kings at 6 p.m. next Friday.
