Football: MTU beats Hillsdale in OT

HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech rallied with a late fourth-quarter scoring drive Saturday to force overtime and edged Hillsdale College 31-30 at Sherman Field.

MTU’s Will Ark completed 20 of 31 passes for 214 yards and added a pair of touchdown runs. James Henderson eclipsed the century mark on the ground for the second week in a row, churning out 120 yards on 28 carries. Jacob Wenzlick reeled in nine passes for 117 yards.

On defense for MTU, defensive lineman Max Maloney of Iron River had two tackles.

The Huskies (2-0) are back at Sherman Field on Saturday when they entertain Davenport University in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.

NMU runs past Texas

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan rushed for 337 yards and defeated the University of Texas of the Permian Basin 27-22 at the Superior Dome.

Senior Jake Mayon led the team with 224 yards on 35 carries, and scored a fourth-quarter touchdown.

The Wildcats (1-1) open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday, hosting eighth-ranked Grand Valley State.
