HERMANSVILLE –District 3 of the U.P. Trappers Association has announced the schedule of events for its 12th annual Midwinter Young Trappers Workshop.

It will be held in the Community Center in Hermansville on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Central time).

The schedule follows:

— 8 a.m.: Doors open

— 9:30 a.m.: Weasel trapping demonstration by Eugene Arduin.

— 12:30 p.m.: Mink, muskrat, and raccoon demonstration by Bob Whitens.

— 1:30 p.m.: Skinning/ fur handling demonstration by professional fur handler Rich Clark.

— 3 p.m: Door prizes awarded.

— 4 p.m.: Approximate closing time.

Trapping supply dealers Rich Clark and Scott Burton will be on hand with their vast variety of supplies for sale.  Fur buyer Clint Seawright of Skunk Creek Furs will be there buying fur (put up, green or in the round) as well.

Each youngster in attendance will receive the following: a weasel trapping set-up (box and trap); a guaranteed door prize; free trapping literature; and, of course, the knowledge gained from the veteran trappers who put this event on.

There is also the opportunity for anyone to sign up for trapper education classes and to become a member of U.P. Trappers and/or National Trappers Association.

There is also a fur/skull identification station which is always a popular item.

This event is geared toward youngsters but adults are welcome as well. Everyone can learn some “tricks of the trade.”

There is plenty of time between demonstrations to ask questions or swap stories with the many veteran trappers who always attend.

This workshop has grown in popularity each year; last year about 150 kids attended.

Food and refreshments will be available for purchase throughout the day.

“This is a fun filled learning experience for these kids,” said  Dennis Girardi, longtime member of the U.P. Trappers Association.

“It is great to see their interest and enthusiasm as they can’t wait to try out their new traps and skills. This is an excellent event and a big thank you goes out to all the volunteers who put it together and to those who donated the prizes for the kids,” Girardi said.
