Free fishing this weekend in Michigan
IRON MOUNTAIN — Everyone in Michigan is invited to fish for free Saturday and Sunday for the 2018 Winter Free Fishing Weekend.
A license is not required to fish those two days, but all other fishing regulations still apply.
Michigan has been celebrating the Winter Free Fishing Weekend annually since 1994. With more than 3,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, tens of thousands of miles of rivers and streams, and 11,000 inland lakes, Michigan and fishing are a natural match.
On Saturday, Mid City Bar and Grill in Caspian will serve as headquarters for a fishing tournament from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
This family fun event awards prizes for largest perch, northern pike and walleye caught on any lake in Iron County.

The Wishigan Outdoors Ice Fishing Tournament on Saturday is based at the VFW Ottawa Post 3134 at 94 E. Genessee St. in Iron River. Sign up at the VFW or at Northwoods Wilderness Outfitters in Iron Mountain.
Also, the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department will host a fishing contest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 224-acre Sunday Lake. Headquarters is the Wakefield VFW Post 9084, 107 W. U.S. 2.
