Musky club to host annual Expo on Feb. 17 in IM

IRON MOUNTAIN – Boundary Waters Musky Club will host its 10th annual Expo from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, in the Antoine Banquet Room at Recreation Lanes in Iron Mountain.

The event will feature prize drawings, tackle sales and swaps, and presentations by guest speakers. The public is welcome.

“BWMC is extremely proud to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this great event, which has grown tremendously over the years,” said Benji Wood, BWMC vice president. “As usual, we will have an incredible lineup, including one of the biggest names in musky fishing, Steve Heiting.

“People drive thousands of miles to sport shows in Chicago and Milwaukee to see and hear the same speakers we will have here in Iron Mountain.”

The speaker lineup includes:

–Noon, Jim Heffner, history of the famous Suick musky lures and tactics for using them.

— 1 p.m., Cory Kovacs, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, overview of muskellunge management and future initiatives.

–2 p.m., Steve Hogler, Wisconsin DNR, overview of the world-class Green Bay fishery and management strategies.

–3 p.m., Steve Heiting, “Make Muskies Predictable.” Heiting is the managing editor of Musky Hunter magazine and a frequent guest on “The Musky Hunter” television show. He has written two books about musky fishing and has produced five instructional musky fishing DVDs. He is on the pro teams of Ranger, Mercury, St. Croix, Mepps, Frabill, Shoeder’s Marina, Minn Kota, Humminbird and Stealth Tackle.

The BWMC awards and anniversary celebration will take place at 4 p.m.

An annual membership to the club is $10 for an individual or $15 for a family.

Dinner will be provided for members at about 5 p.m A cash bar will be open throughout the day.
