Annual youth fishing outing scheduled for July 7 in Laona

LAONA, Wis. — The Boundary Waters Musky Club, along with the Headwaters and Title Town Chapters of Muskies Inc., are sponsoring the sixth annual NE Wisconsin Kids Fishing Outing for ages 10 to 17 on Saturday, July 7.

Registration will be 7 to 7:30 a.m. at the Silver Lake Pavilion on Silver Lake, Hwy. 32, Laona, rain or shine.

The event will run from 7:30 a.m. until noon; any lake in the area may be fished. Lunch will be served and prizes given for the largest fish in each category.

All participants will receive a special gift. Anglers will be matched up with guides, will be fishing from boats, and may fish for their choice of species and by any method.

“Last year’s event was another success,” said Dan Lazzeroni, event chairman. “This is a great way to introduce kids to various types of fishing, and if they are interested, musky fishing.”

In the event of rain, prizes will be distributed to those attending.

The number of kids that can participate may be limited by the availability of guides with boats. Sponsors again are anticipating 50 anglers and 25 guides.

Anyone who is willing to take two or three kids fishing is encouraged to contact the organizers. Prospective guides should contact Lazzeroni at 715-889-2938 or Nick Vento at 414-791-1189.

Requests for additional information and pre-registration can be done through the Facebook site, BWMC – Muskies Inc. Kids Outing, or via e-mail at

Parents will need to sign a waiver for their child to participate unless the parent is guiding. The waiver can be e-mailed to those parents not attending.
