Dillman to speak at Christian Women’s Connection luncheon

LINDA DILLMAN

IRON MOUNTAIN — Christian Women’s Connection has announced its next lunch meeting will be noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain.

Featured speaker will be Linda Dillman. She was born in Ishpeming, to Taimi and Eli Makela, and has lived in Negaunee most of her life, except for a few years in Abilene, Texas, and Little Rock, Ark.

She is a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee; baptized, confirmed and married there. In 1968, she married Larry Dillman, who was stationed at KI Sawyer Air Force Base. They have two children; Tanya, who has two daughters, and Paul, who has a son. Their grandchildren bring them great joy.

After their children were in junior high school, she went to work at the KI Sawyer Air Force Base Hospital until it closed, and in 2010 she retired from the Jacobetti Home for Veterans. She took communion to shut-ins and did other jobs for the hospital.

She has been president of the VFW Auxiliary numerous times, and now is the commander of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Dillman also is a member of the No Veteran Left Alone program at the Jacobetti Home; taking turns sitting with those who are dying and have no family to be with them. She is active in other organizations as well.

Dillman says the Lord has blessed her and her husband in many ways and they want to give back by helping others.

The meal will be a chicken strawberry spinach salad. An alternate meal is a chef salad. The cost of the meal is $15.

Music will be by Kim Cherney and her daughters, Katie and Emily.

There will be a purse exchange. Bring in a purse and have the opportunity to pick out a different purse. This activity is optional.

Anyone interested in attending the Christian Women’s Connection luncheon in August should contact Eva Carlson at 906-774-3077 by Friday, Aug. 4, to make a reservation.

Cancellations must be made by Sunday, Aug. 6.

A free nursery is available; please indicate names and ages of children.
